The proposed hotel and conference facility at Ekerum on the island of Öland is designed to respond to the area’s open landscape and the strong connection between buildings and nature. The project combines a traditional architectural structure with a contemporary landmark element, creating a new entrance and destination within the Ekerum area.

The building composition is based on low gabled wings arranged around a sheltered courtyard, reflecting traditional Scandinavian building forms and aligning with the scale and character of the surrounding environment. A vertical tower element rises from the composition, forming a distinctive silhouette and allowing most hotel rooms to benefit from expansive views towards the Kalmarsund and the surrounding landscape. The complex also includes conference spaces, restaurants, bars, and social areas connected through an entrance lobby and gallery circulation.

The project emphasises durability, flexibility, and long-term sustainability. The architecture features light-coloured brick or plaster façades, large glazed openings, and a robust concrete structural system designed for energy efficiency and a stable indoor climate. Public interiors are envisioned with natural materials such as Öland limestone, wood, and glass, creating a timeless atmosphere, while the overall layout allows the hotel’s functions to evolve and adapt in collaboration with future operators.
