A modern dental education requires large, open, and coherent floors with the potential for efficient and flexible resource utilisation. Both the exterior and interior form part of the urban fabric; the building opens invitingly on all sides, becoming a reference point that contributes to linking the urban space together on both a large and small scale. The stepped silhouette of the new Amphitrite allows the area’s signature buildings to stand out, while simultaneously providing the project with its own distinct identity.

The building is arranged around a light-filled courtyard that extends from façade to façade in a north-south direction. This courtyard serves as the building’s spatial hub and primary circulation core, creating an efficient form factor that is fundamental to the objective of achieving a climate-positive building. The terraced volume, with outdoor spaces on all levels, supports high-quality learning and working environments. These terraces are programmed to contribute to ecosystem services, while the stepped design breaks vertical winds, thereby fostering a more pleasant microclimate at street level.

The structural grid is adapted to accommodate large floor plans, based on technical specifications provided by Wihlborgs, to ensure open and flexible layouts suitable for both university and office premises. The design process includes an ongoing evaluation of façade materials, with alternative solutions proposed to address technical, economic, and resource-related requirements.
